Frequently Asked Questions & Regional Insights

Why is Arabica coffee from Son La, Viet Nam considered unique?

While Viet Nam is universally recognized as a global powerhouse for robusta production, the northern province of Son La is rapidly emerging as an elite frontier for specialty Arabica.

Nestled in the high-altitude Northwest highlands, Son La features nutrient-rich soil, a distinct microclimate, and steep mountain topography. Thriving at elevations around 1,750 meters above sea level, these specialty coffee trees undergo slow cherry maturation due to cool alpine nights and misty conditions. This prolonged growing cycle allows the Catimor variety to develop complex organic acids and high concentrations of structural sugars, shattering standard regional expectations and offering a radically clean, premium cup.

What are the main flavor profiles of Son La Arabica coffee?

Because of the unique terroir and meticulous sorting practices in northern Viet Nam, our light-roasted Son La selections present a highly sophisticated flavor profile:

  • Aromatics & Primary Notes: Distinctly characterized by a crisp, juicy stone fruit acidity seamlessly integrated with a highly unique, sweet complexity of herbal ginseng.

  • Finish & Aftertaste: Deeply comforting and sweet, leaving a long, clean aftertaste of warm, toasted hazelnut and soft botanical tea-like clarity.

How does Washed processing benefit Vietnamese specialty coffee?

The traditional Washed processing method used for our Son La micro-lots is essential for highlighting pure terroir transparency. After hand-picking only peak-ripe cherries, the fruit skin and sticky mucilage are completely stripped away before the beans are dried cleanly on raised beds. This pristine method completely removes heavy, rustic fruit overtones, allowing the native clarity, smooth round mouthfeel, and delicate herbal-nutty balance of the Catimor variety to step forward completely unhindered.
